Clare’s Law is vital piece of legislation that helps individuals at risk of domestic violence. For my dissertation, I explored how media portrayal influences public attitudes toward domestic violence and the potential impact this has on preventative measures like Clare’s Law. This research has directly shaped my studio practice, where I aim to raise awareness about Clare’s Law— an issue that remains largely under the radar yet has the potential to protect countless lives. For my campaign I want people to stop and think about what they are seeing, learn about a crucial law that would allow thousands of people to get help they may not know they need. I used road signs as they are well known and recognizable to everyone. This makes people notice and then find out the message I’m trying to convey. I used well known symbols within street signs to create merch and decals that could be a subtle way for people to learn what Clares law is and take them to an app that I created, that shows what Clare’ s law is and how they can get help.
Scanning the QR code will take you to an app prototype designed to help people find out what Clare’s law is, how to use it and ways of getting help straight away from other resources.
